JUNE 14, 2008 - END OF HALIFAX FIELD NATURALISTS FIELD TRIP - at
Robie Tufts Nature Centre in Wolfville at dusk: I met about eight
members of HFN at the chimney at about 8:35 p.m. -- they and I
watched for CHIMNEY SWIFTS from 8:30 to 9:10 p.m. (Sunset at 9:02) --
12+ TOTAL CHIMNEY SWIFTS counted as they entered the chimney from
8:52 to 9:05, and at least 2 MORE SWIFTS were not seen to enter while
we watched -- sky mostly overcast, light wind, cool, 14 C. Present
among the HFN group were Regina Maass, and Ingrid & Burkhard Plache.

I told everyone about the oodles of information to be had by
Googling ....chimneyswifts.org ...., where you will find the Web-site
of the Driftwood Wildlife Association in Austin, Texas, including all
sorts of info' and a book on how to build artificial towers for the
nesting and/or roosting of chimney swifts! etc. etc. I strongly
encourage surfing their site and considering community projects
involving such towers.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
