All:

Those who didn't rush off to see these wanderers at Country Hbr. appear to have
missed out. They were last seen two days ago, and today nine turned up in
Ipswich Mass. - surely the same flock.

My previous mailing on clipped hind toes needs to be stressed again. Apparently
captive birds covered by the Migratory Birds Treaty, including waterfowl, are
legally required to be banded or have their hind toes clipped. Eric Mills'
photos (posted on the RBA photo site) show clearly that at least three of the
Country Hbr. birds have long, unclipped toes.

Unfortunately for those of us, including me, who have only the long-staying 1998
Black-bellied Whistling-Duck at Pointe d'Eglise on their NS life lists, I
looked closely at my photos of the bird and it quite clearly has clipped hind
toes. It thus was certainly an escapee from a waterfowl collection somewhere,
and alas, "uncountable" as a lifer.

Cheers (tears), Ian McLaren
