MAY 26, 2008 - Katherine McKee told me that she first noticed CHIMNEY
SWIFTS this year on Friday, May 23, in the evening near the old
leaning chimney on the house next to hers on Leverett Ave.? in
Kentville (just north of Commercial St., east of downtown
Kentville). This chimney has hosted an unknown number of swifts for
several summers at least. (Dr. McKee is my eye doctor.)

MAY 27, 2008 - It must be SUMMER?, now that it is seemingly warm for
a couple of days and HORSE CHESTNUT, LILAC, and APPLE are all in
bloom suddenly, to add to the other floral colours in Wolfville.
SYCAMORE MAPLE in bloom on Acadia Univ. campus.

MAY 28, 2008 - Robie Tufts Nature Centre in Wolfville at dusk: I
observed for CHIMNEY SWIFTS from 8:45 to 9:25 p.m. (Sunset 8:49) --
swifts' flights tonight were not abnormally high in the air, so
perhaps the merlins haven't harassed them for a couple of nights, or
perhaps tonight's flock is new, having just arrived on their
northward flight? -- first entries of swifts into the chimney at
9:00, then most entries at about 9:05, then very gradual laggards
entered gradually until 9:19 -- TOTAL SWIFTS SEEN ABOUT 30 --
observers Jim Wolford, Wendy Elliott, and 3 others.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville, 542-9204
