Today at lunchtime I obseved elvers ("baby eels"), by the hundreds if =
not thousands, (unsuccessfully) attempting to make their way upstream =
into Sullivans Pond and lakes Banook and Micmac. I observed them in =
downtown Dartmouth's Waterfront Park, at the downstream end of the =
Alderney Drive culvert. Two American Crows were picking some of them up =
in the shallows.
It is gratifying to see the name Sawmill River in use again, such as =
on a nearby interpretive sign recently erected by the Shubenacadie Canal =
Commission.
