I noticed the other day that the purpose-built osprey nesting =
platform just outside of the N. S. Museum on Summer St. in Halifax is =
being ignored by its intended users. It contains only a few sticks, and =
there are no ospreys around. Does anyone known whether this platform was =
ever successfully used for nesting? How many years has it been in place?
In previous years ospreys have nested, or at least attempted to, on =
top of one of the tall light poles at the nearby sports field. I =
understand that this caused problems when the lights stayed on late into =
the night during the baseball season.
I see ospreys fishing in the nearby public gardens pond, or else =
perched on a tree nearby, every time I walk or bicycle by. They are =
quite habituated to cars and pedestrians.
