I too had a bunch of Purple Finches during the past few days. I also had
lots of White-throated Sparrows. Just this morning I got my first
Ruby-crowned Kinglet and Brown-headed Cowbirds of the year, both were
singing!

I noticed exactly the same thing - no purple finches whatsoever, which
was definitely unusual for my site and only one whitethroat - also
unusual. Now however, to my delight, a whole group of P. finches have
arrived and I am also hearing whitethroats.
