My wife last night was woken up by the dogs in conversation with a Long Eared Owl. She is not 100% sure as she is doing this from memory of my owl recordings but she knows that the calls of the Great Horned and Barred Owls. She described the owl though as definately making a barking call. Last year at this time I did have a Long Eared owl but he did not hang around.
I will have a listen tonight as I will be up for at least part of the Flames game.
A night trip up Georgefield Rd (runs from Macphees Corner to the 236) will definately get you numerous Barred and some Great Horned. Saw Whets are around.
The Sapsuckers are back pounding on the metal structures. Pileateds have been courting, as have the woodcocks. Woodducks have been seen on the finally unfrozen lake.
Rob Woods
Georgefield.
