Hi there,

The recent postings about Spring Peepers reminded me of several
reports about other herps which were made at the meeting of the
Halifax Field Naturalists last Thursday night (3 April). I thought
I'd pass these along.

Clarence Stevens Jr. reported that he had been seeing Yellow-spotted
Salamanders active, and that he had seen spermatophores, though not
yet egg masses, at the Heart-shaped Pond in Hemlock Ravine in
Prince's Lodge. He also reported that there were Wood Frog egg
masses already in the pond, even though the center of the pond was
still frozen.

Our speaker, Duncan Smith, Species at Risk Stewardship Biologist at
Kejimkujik National Park, reported that recently he had seen Wood
Frogs crossing a road in his area on a rainy night.

However, no one at the meeting reported hearing Spring Peepers. I'm
still waiting, myself ...

	Cheers,

	Patricia L. Chalmers
	Halifax
