I remember years ago hearing them talk about bringing skunks back to the =
valley to get rid of the mice that were chewing the bark off the bottom =
of small trees that were being planted in new apple orchards. The =
farmers must be happy now that the skunks are back again. I have heard =
my parents say when they were small there were lots of skunks around in =
the valley and a disease swept through them and killed the skunks off. =
There were no skunks around when I was growing up - I think they came =
back from northern NS, but I am wondering if they got a little help from =
some government agency.

birds

Already a skunk has been digging for grubs around my yard, especially =
near my compost area and near the birdfeeder areas.

At 7 p.m. I watched loose flocks of CROWS flying high toward the =

this

Mar. 20, 2008 - Our feeder birds in Wolfville still include the
CLAY-COLOURED SPARROW (still tiny and very pale and easy to notice =
among the
others sparrows), the still-immature WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW (Martin =
Thomas
north of Port Williams also has at least one of this species), male =
and
female CARDINALS, 15+ junky JUNCOS, 5+ WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, plus
chickadees, mourning doves, crows, occasional blue jays, 1-2 red =
squirrels,
    up to about 10 pheasants.
