Hi all
A sign of northward migration in Pictou Co. is the appearance of increasing numbers of Ring-billed Gulls. Since they dwindle down to a handful in winter, it was quite noticeable on Saturday, Mar. 15, that there were 50 in the parking lot of the Aberdeen Business Centre, behind the old liquor store. However, winter birds are still around in numbers with 18 American Tree Sparrows at my feeder at dawn and 80-100 Redpolls in and around the niger seed feeder daily. Song Sparrows (2) that I saw only once at my feeder this winter in January, must have taken up with new neighbouring feeders and have been singing in the shurbs near the river for several weeks now. Tree Sparrows are also singing a few bars in the morning as well.
I did some early morning owl atlassing in the James River- Keppoch area of Antigonish on Sat. morning, but alas, no luck at all. Richard Murphy had heard Saw-whet Owl calling earlier in the week in Pictou Co.
cheers
Ken
Happy St. Patrick's Day
