I was just in touch with Richard Stern and he also suggests that it
looks like a Great Egret.
Again, the location: Bluff Road, Avonport (exit 9 off 101, around
"the round-about) take exit past school, Bluff Rd swing abruptly
right at church), Haliburton farm 2nd place on right, about 0.5 km or
less, continue eastward to bottom of hill, a dark road repair patch
IDs the culvert for the brook flowing north under the road (there is
also a green sewer pumping station structure on the left). The egret
was located on the south side, strolling casually along the brook,
occasionally pausing, leaning down and darting its long bill into the
water ( any success at food ???).
