6 March 2008 I walked the dog on the Prospect Barrens today, and the Short-eared Owl put in a brief appearance. It is now, apparently, roaming widely over the barrens, and a regular walker I chatted with says he sees it on most of his outings. I'm glad the bird survived all the foul weather of late, and I presume it is finding prey. On the drive down the Prospect Peninsula two Gray Jays flew across the road in front of the car. Where were they when I needed them for my winter list?
