All: Late yesterday I was called by Sandra Sperker, who lives on Cherry St., Halifax, about what she believed was a White-winged Dove that had been around her yard for a few days. I went over and confirmed that the bird is indeed a White-winged Dove, a gray-toned individual apparently of the s.w. subspecies _mearnsi_. It was here at least 4 days before yesterday, so qualifies for the winter and depth-of-winter lists. It is the only one of 42 (!) that have reached NS to have first appeared in February. I am sorry I didn't get the word out last night, but I had a computer glitch. The bird is coming to feed on the ground under a feeder at Ms Sperker's house at 6061 Cherry Street, which runs into Robie two streets N. of Jubilee. The bird is not easily seen, if at all, from outside, even from lanes alongside the house, as there are solid, high fences around it. It might, I suppose, perch sometimes in higher trees in the area, but that's chancy. Ms Sperker will welcome viewers, but you should make arrangements about visiting times with her. She is home evenings at 422-8194, and at work 426-3534. The bird seemed content, if fluffed out against the cold, and should be around for the weekend. Cheers, Ian McLaren
