I always have a couple of Red Squirrels around 365 days/year even
when I don't have my feeders in operation. But recently I'm seeing 4
or 5 who are beginning to make pests of themselves (hogging the
feeder tray areas, they even dash at birds, even BJs, when they try
to get on the tray). February onward the number of squirrel tracks
in and around my feeders really multiply. Some years I have counted
as many as 7 or 8 by late February and through March. Some years
they become destructive pests around my buildings, then, I have to
take direct action against them; they are easy to live trap and
remove to more remote areas.
