1 Feb 2008 I walked the neighbour's dog in the Prospect Village area this morning, in part because I'd been informed by local observers that the Short-eared Owl reported earlier was quite active through the day, and not just at dawn and dusk. I had yet to catch up with the owl, so I thought I'd try again. I couldn't see the owl anywhere as I started into the barrens, but I met some locals I knew, and they asked if I had seen the owl. I said that I hadn't, and they told me to turn around -- the owl was flying over the village. Indeed it was. And not just over the village, but through it, poking around in front yards, back yards, along the shoreline, perching on power lines, causing excitment among the starlings. Quite a sight.
