Dave, I never had a problem with squirrels or chipmunks eating the crocus 
corms until 2006 when the new batch of young chipmunks, that live under the 
front step and constantly almost trip my wife, suddenly developed a taste 
for the corms and virtually cleaned out a bed of several hundred.  Last year 
my crocus crop could be counted on both hands.  They must have needed a 
saffron fix or they are related to Marg's bunch just down the road in White 
Point!
