After work and about 1 hour ago around 4:30 p.m. I spotted a female =
Hooded Merganser at Sullivans Pond. It was the first time I recall =
seeing this species there, and for a new visitor this bird was fairly =
approachable. It was in amongst the wigeon flock, which included a male =
and female Eurasian Wigeon, and likely the male Eurasian / American =
hybrid that my sister Rita kept seeing but I hadn't until now. Here is =
one of the few photos that turned out because of the dim light just =
before a downpour of rain. My flash, which had activated, fortunately =
didn't seem to affect the eye as much as usual under similiar =
circumstances:
