Hi; Having missed all the Solitaires that were here in December, I was delighted when Helen MacMillan of 194 Richardson Drive in Westphal called me to say she had a different bird in her yard yesterday and today. She described it as Robin-like but grey with a prominent white eyering, buffy wingbars and white on its long outer tail feathers. I jumped in the car, picked up Bob McDonald, and we drove right over there. Within 10 minutes we got great looks at this bird - definitely a Townsend's - and Bob even got some pictures! Directions: Take Highway #7, Dartmouth, (Main Street) from the Circumferential Highway (#111), Exit #6, and drive several kilometres out to Ross Road (Rte#328). Take the first left off Ross Road (Salmon River Drive, then the first right (Shannon Dr.) then turn right again on Richardson. Follow Richardson around to the top. Helen's house (formerly Elaine Black's house) is at the top across from Chris Evan Drive. To view the bird, stand by the end of the second driveway (don't go up this driveway or you may scare the bird) and watch the Juniper bush at the front corner of the house. The bird likes to feed on the Juniper berries. He also flies, quite often, to the Maple on the other side of the same driveway, above the feeders: Niger, platform, suet and a "little red barnhouse" feeder. There are a couple of Birch trees right in front of this Maple. Cheers; Suzanne Looking for the perfect gift? Give the gift of Flickr! http://www.flickr.com/gift/
