The highlights included a pair of Redheads in a flock of about 700 scaup (nearly all Greaters; I could only find 10 or so
Lessers), along with 200 C. Goldeneye (no Barrows), at the ice-edge off Bayport. In Lunenburg, accompanying the 70 or
so Mallards along Tannery Road and behind ABCO, were a female Gadwall and a female Am. Wigeon. In a small flock
of C. Goldeneye near the Highliner plant on Lunenburg harbour was a fine male Barrow's Goldeneye.

Another notable sight was a raft of 30 Red-necked Grebes off Hirtles Beach. The smaller pond at Hirtle's is proving to be
a good spot for roosting gulls: today among the usuals, 8 Iceland Gulls. A flock of 100 Canada Geese overflew Upper
South Cove headed SW, and a flock of 70 was feeding along Second Peninsula (all apparently B.c. canadensis except
for one brown-chested B.c. interior type). There were lots of Horned Grebes along my route from the Kingsburg area to
Mahone Bay and miscellaneous other common waterfowl.

A dearth of land birds today, making a lone White-winged Crossbill at the Highliner plant a welcome sight. And today
Anne saw the first Fox Sparrow of our winter feeding season at our feeders in Lower Rose Bay.
