HI All:
Today has been a fantastic day for yard birding. The following were here at
the same time :
5 Blue Jays
30 plus Evening Grosbeaks
50 plus Waxwings, ( mixture of Cedar and Bohemian, mostly the former)
13 American Gold Finches
2 Common Redpolls
3 Tree Sparrows
1 Red-breasted Nuthatch
1 Downey W P
When they had all been here for about 30 minutes, a Merlin swooped in and
they all took off!!
The Waxwings stayed mostly across the road at my neighbour as she has pine
boughs and holly in three window boxes, you could hardly see the window
boxes for the birds!!
At 12:40 a Northern Shrike lit in the Maple tree and stayed around long
enough for me to get him on video. I hadn't seen a Shrike for a long time,
and not this year so far
The yard continues to be full in stages, with a lot more Red polls and
finches
Yesterday we also saw two Robins, a Northern Harrier, and a Sharp-shinned
hawk took a junco in our yard and flew off with it. We seem to have a
resident white throated sparrow and some regular Red-Winged B Birds. My
yard count is now up to 83 for 2007!
