Hi all:
   Since kingfisher nesting and foraging habitat, i.e. the edges of =
streams and lakes, is highly linear, wouldn't it be more useful to =
measure this species' density or population in individuals per km and =
not per square km?

  Actually, that's only 1 kingfisher for every 3.3 square kilometres of =
NS, or one pair per 6.6 square kilometres. Now I realize that there's a =
lot of unsuitable kingfisher habitat, but as a gut feeling, I wouldn't =
say that number is exhorbitantly high. But I'm no kingfisher =
expert...this is just a gut feeling. I do think it's high, but not a =
lot.=20
