Today at the feeder in White Point I have had a small group of about 6 or 7 starlings, they cleaned up the winter display that went up yesterday, 3 blue jays, a sparrow, possibly a chipping sparrow, and numerous chickadees at the feeders. One Mourning Dove stayed for a time but was chased away by two runaway (White Point) bunnies licking up the ground seed, and a squirrel. The oriole (general consensus seems to be this is a Baltimore oriole) is still here, feeding on grapes in the snow. This must be the third week. I am thinking potential food source if it stays. I have some apples, and some grapes in the freezer. I see they will eat corn and some squash...anyone else managed to feed them this, as well as oranges and such. Last year the one moved inside a feeder through a hole chewed buy a squirrel and stayed there for several days to avoid wind and snow. It was a black oil sunflower feeder and it had no objections I could see with the chickadees stopping to get their fill. Maybe I will make a feeder, a cave type and have a hook to put things on for it to try when the weather gets really nasty again. Marg in White Point, Queens Co.. http://margmillard.ca
