With thanks to Judy Tufts for teaching me that the local ponds are more =
likely to produce results when the tide is high.

On a whim I checked out the local tide table at 10a.m.this morning and =
discovered time and tides were indeed favorable, and seeing as how =
they 'wait for no man' I dashed over to become familiar with the various =
locations.

Port Williams sewerage lagoon was teeming with mallard ...about sixty of =
them... but no other ducks, however I was treated to a beautiful =
red-tailed hawk cruising quite close.

Van Nostrand's Pond, [ easy to find thanks to the several local =
'naturens' friends who offered direction ] but this was not a good =
morning and I came up with zero....however as I turned along Church Rd =
heading for Canard St I encountered a merlin on the roadside wires and a =
second red-tailed hawk cruising.

Canard pond. Among the numerous gulls, black ducks, and mallard, there =
were six male Northen pintail also at least four females. One shoveler =
and one American widgeon [ baldpate ]=20

Saxon St Pond. Being ' from away' I don't know if green-winged teal are =
locally newsworthy or not, there were at least twenty of them among the =
hordes of mallard there, also two more male Northern Pintail, The entire =
congregation being watched over by a mature bald eagle.

Baden Powell Drive [ Home ] Shortly after I returned a brown creeper, =
joined the backyard population of chickadees and nuthatches [ both kinds =
] Cause for celebration as this is the first one I have seen since =
2002.
