Hi all
Harry and Jean Brennan reported a PINE WARBLER and a NORTHERN SHRIKE (their 4th of the fall) in their yard today (Nov. 17) in Elgin, Pictou Co.
Tim Brennan reported a male NORTHERN CARDINAL in his yard in Pictou Landing on Nov. 15.
I was out for a couple of hours this afternoon and noted little of new birds around. At Waterside PP there were 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 1 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 7 SANDERLING, 7 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and 4 DUNLIN. I could see at least 10 RED-THROATED LOONS but the water was a little choppy for a good count and it was near dusk.
There was a BLACK-HEADED GULL at the New Glasgow sewage lagoon as well as a couple of ICELAND GULLS. AT Pier C in Pictou there were 5 ICELAND GULLS but no sign of the first winter GLAUCOUS GULL seen there on Nov. 12. The HOODED MERGANSER count was 140 today at Haliburton Gut in Lyons Brook. At the parking meter plant in Abercrombie, a fem. NORTHERN PINTAIL and 15 BUFFLEHEAD were noted in the East River. As usual there were Bonaparte's Gulls, Canada Geese, Common and Red-breasted Mergansers at many locations.
cheers
Ken
