Allison and I just got back from a quick scan of Ogden's Pond. The numbers of Bonaparte's Gulls are building; there were 500 or more today, with a decent number of Black-headed Gulls mixed in. The 6 Common Redpolls that Eric Mills and I saw a week ago have turned into at least 50. They were actively ripping seeds from plants on the beach, in the spot I often see large flocks of Snow Buntings this time of year. Also seen were 1 Red-necked Grebe and a 1 Red-throated Loon, both in close on the bay side of the beach. In the pond itself there were good numbers of both American Black Ducks and Common Mergansers, as well as 20 goldeneye. When I had my back turned I heard the wings of many ducks flying over and turned to see several flocks of what appeared to be all goldeneye converging, forming a flock of about 200 that proceeded to set down in the bay. -- Bruce Stevens Antigonish
