I am sure many of us can identify with the damage to Jim's feeders! After many such episodes of damage and loss I admitted defeat years ago and bring mine in every night. This winter however I am experiencing something I've never encountered before; a very large, well padded, healthy looking raccoon, with a beautiful, lustrous coat started appearing regularly at dusk when I went to take the feeders in and to my surprise began growling at me a few days ago when I did this. S(h)e has now started appearing before dusk to manhandle seeds out of the feeders - but now not only growls, it also lunges at me when I go out to rescue the feeders and doesn't back down when I make threatening noises and gestures at it, leaving me so uncomfortable that I am now reduced to taking a broom with me to keep it at bay ! A whack when it comes too close only deters it momentarily and it comes right back at me, growling ferociously and bighting the broom. All in all, quite intimidating. Any comments?
