Has anyone ever heard of loons staying on freshwater lakes too long into the fall and being (fatally) frozen in? There are currently at least half a dozen (record late) lingering loons in Labrador City. Each day the area of open water they are utilizing grows smaller. One would assume they would leave before these areas gets too small (<100 meters long) to take off from, but who knows?
