Hello Dorothy -
       I had a picture a few years ago of a bird I was certain was a =
Cooper's Hawk. A couple of experts looked at it and agreed that it was =
a female sharp-shin. The only difference I can see in the two birds is =
that the Coopers has a more rounded tail. Peterson says the two birds =
approach each other so closely in size and tail shape that often they =
cannot be safely identified in the field. =20
I am happy to see that you are having your usual number of =
interesting birds. Have a good winter -

Roland.

  Good morning all:

At dawn this morning I noticed the outline of a hawk in one of our =
trees. It left, but came back and lit in one of the maple trees just =
outside my kitchen window. To my surprise it turned out to be an im. =
Coopers Hawk. It was across the road trying to flush his breakfast out =
of the bushes and the yard here has gone strangely silent. When the =
Merlins come they get mocked by most of the birds, but none were messing =
around this time, they all went undercover.

  =20

  Happy Birding

  Dorothy Cameron
