I also has a simuliar experience sighting the Turkey Vultures on Saturday although I was driving my car in the middle of Long Island. They just seem to keep soaring above overhead. I counted 35. Also lots of hawks that day: Merlins, Sharp-shinned, and an Osprey. My husband sighted the pileated woodpecker by his camp on the Saint Mary's Side of Long Island. Lots of Dark-eyed Junco's around, purple finches, black-cappd chickadees.
