26 October 2007 I took Sam for a walk to Wagner's Beach late this morning, on this beautiful, sunny, calm day. The woods and barrens were very quiet, though a few migrant birds did fly in off the ocean; three individual Blue Jays at intervals, and a Hairy Woodpecker, most unexpected. Offshore there were a few gannets, but the notable event was a steady migration of geese, most flocks quite high and somewhat offshore. Heading south, naturally. Hundreds of them. Almost all were Canada Geese, of course, though one large flock that passed by closer to shore had a lone Snow Goose. There were no obvious Cackling, White-fronted, or Barnacle Geese, alas. However, two Brant flew by low over the water close to shore, also heading south. A three-species goose day is a remarkable event for the Prospect Peninsula. The goose show made up for the lack of land birds.
