All; Ross Hall reported that at 11:30 h the Barnacle Goose was in the field opposite McWilliams Rd, about a km on Hiway2 in from Exit 14A off Hiway 102. His coleague also saw the Gr. White-fronted Goose. I couldn't find either there around noon, although they could have been in a depression. Along Hiway 236, across the Salmon River, via Exit 14 on Hiway 102, there was a large group of geese on the N side, just past Truro Heights and near the entrance, with parking, to the Cobequid Trail. (There is an adjacent 2nd-hand car lot.) The geese were easily studied there, and were not over-excited by walkers on the nearby trail. Among them were a range of Canada Geese - with few very white-breasted Newfoundland-type Canadas. Better still were a nice adult Snow Goose (Greater by bill size and bulk cf. Canadas) and at least two certifiable Cackling Geese. I disgiscoped all three species. Around 13:00 h, many geese flushed from the McWilliams Rd group, apparently by a Bald Eagle, and I went over the that side when they put down again. Among them was the Barnacle Goose about 3-400 m away near the river dyke. I digiscoped and got a fair pic of it. Then, alas, I ran out of battery charge. Cheers, Ian McLaren
