This morning in St. Eleanors, PEI some of the birds sighted are a sure =
sign that=20
winter is not too far off. The first sign was a lone Common Redpoll =
flying=20
south along the shore of Malpeque Bay. I later recorded two other flocks =
of=20
redpolls during the morning with 19 in one group and 3 in the last =
group. The=20
second sign of winter's fast approach for me were 4 Snow Buntings also =
flying=20
along Malpeque Bay. Other open field birds included 4 American Pipit and =
29=20
Horned Lark. On the finch side of things I heard a flock of both =
White-winged=20
Crossbill and Pine Siskin as well as the odd Purple Finch. The sighting =
of the=20
morning for me were 8 Pine Grosbeak including a bright male that were =
feeding=20
on both White Spruce cones and Mountain Ash berries. To top of the =
mornings=20
sightings I scanned Malpeque Bay and found a lone Red-necked Grebe =
cruising the=20
bay with the Common Eider which numbered ~130 birds and numerous =
White-winged=20
and Surf Scoters that were feeding on the fishermen's mussels socks.=20
