There were a couple of Whimbrels in early am in a field, 3 =
Oystercatchers at Daniel's head before heading out to the cape at 8:00 =
am with Hans Toom, Laura, and Clyde Stoddart. On the Cape Clyde and I =
saw 3 American Golden Plovers. The forest had Red-breasted nuthatches =
(which were everywhere.. hawking insects from the lighthouse wall, and =
even from the sides of trucks at the metal forest), Yellow-bellied =
flycatcher, Baltimore Oriole. Clyde spotted the first of 2 Buff-breasted =
Sandpipers which were on the grasses to the right of the lighthouse. =
There was also a group of about 6 Pectoral Sandpipers. After arriving =
back about noon and hearing about the fallout of passerines we headed =
for house # 38 to see what was still there. Only a Cape May warbler and =
Red-eyed vireo however before a Sharp-shinned hawk started patrolling. =
At 4:00 at the Alders at Daniel's head Clyde and I found a Nashville, =
Canada, Magnolia Warbler and American Redstart. By about 5:00 I =
realized I had seen 19 species of shorebirds so headed back to the hawk =
and found 7 Red Knots and 2 Hudsonian Godwits to end the day. The tide =
was high at 8:00 am and low by 6:00 pm.
