In 1974 I owned a cottage just above the beach. It was on the left up the last road before you get to the small parking lot. A friend of mine, who worked on parks for DNR, was quite excited when he saw where my property was. It seems the small wet area bordered by my cottage road and the road to the beach was protected because of a special bird living there. I was not interested in birds so never asked what species it was but it made the land I briefly owned much more valuable. In fact the houses past that road very near the beach were built in 1975 and on. The beach at that time was hardly ever used . Every evening during the week days I would walk my dogs there (controlled of course) and meet no one.The partys may have come later. It would seem a shame to change the beach in any way except to find a bit more parking, if it is needed. There is a resident on the road who has been there most of his married life , that being well over fifty years and he may be of some help to you with the history of the beach and roads leading to it. His name is Jack Friis. I think his name is on a mail box. Hope this will be of some help. Heather Drope
