Thursday, August 16, 2007 - The American Avocet was present two hours =
after LOW tide and again later in the afternoon at Pond Cove. It seems =
to prefer a certain spot in the eastern part of the main pind. At one =
point, it was only 100 metres away from where I sat on the log.  Could =
not find the baird's sandpiper even though a local? birder showed me a =
pair, which turned out to be least sandpipers :-(  I wanted to stay and =
stake out for shore birds shortly after the tide started to recede., but =
the misty fog rolled making it difficult to study shorebirds on the =
rocks due to strong SW winds.=20

Took a whale watch.  It was one of the great pelagic watches I took. =
Thousands of red and red necked phalaropes appeared.  Here is the list

10 + Wilson's petrels, some of them flying close to our boat!
5 + Puffins
40 + Greater Shearwaters=20
