Hi Everyone; I took an American couple birding yesterday, along the Eastern Shore, stopping at Shorebird Cove. We were lucky enough to find the Ruff reported by Susann Myers. It was between 4:30 and 5:00 in the afternoon, and the sun just happened to pick out the gold edging around the black spots on the back of the Ruff, making it really stand out. Bob Spitzer and his wife Jean took several pictures, which they promised to send me. They were delighted. A Ruff was a lifer for them. I was pleased and impressed with the work that's been done clearing a path around the pond at Shorebird Cove; making it quite easy to access the far end. We saw a Killdeer. Could it be the same one that I saw last spring and again in early summer at that same location? Lots of Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Short-billed Dowitchers (with long bills and apricot breasts)and a few Semi-palmated Plovers, and Semi-palmated Sandpipers. We didn't see any Least Sandpipers or Sanderlings. Directions - for those who don't know this spot. From Dartmouth, traveling along Route #207, turn right onto Three Fathom Harbour Road, go past Rocky Run (the old railway path that's now a walking trail); turn left about 500 meters farther along to travel around the loop instead of going straight; go past the house and barn on the right hand side and watch for a driveway (also on the right)blocked by a single wooden rail mounted on two posts. Park so you don't block this driveway and walk down it to the end. You'll come out at a pond that extends to your left. The birds were at the far left end of this pond.
