For the record, I have not noticed anything disrespectful on this 
thread. I agree with Chris and WF that it's a useful discussion. If 
anything, it can help spur some of us to communicate our frustration 
with inaccurate and insubstantial science reporting directly to the 
media responsible for that reporting.

On the subject of blogging, I'm wary. It all depends on the blogger, 
just as reporting in other media depends on the reporter. Since anyone 
can (and many do) blog, a very small percentage merit following on a 
regular basis. There are some websites I'm aware of that do a good job 
of reporting on scientific matters, including Scientific American News 
and Treehuggers.com.
