Hi Jeannie,

The flash drains the colour somewhat, but this is a Poplar Borer  
(Saperda calcarata Say), in the longhorn beetle family  
(Cerambycidae). Its a common and widely-distributed species in NS  
which feeds on ... poplar & willow.
