Yesterday on a hike along the Duncan's Reef area, south of Duncan's Cove, I met the most beautiful Green Dragonfly I've ever seen in Nova Scotia. This is a large critter, perhaps 75-100mm long with a similar wingspan, making it the size of a small bird. We can't identify a flowering shrub, highlight #41, and a moth, highlight # 44. The shrub is about two metres high and grows in the open alongside the St. Margaret's Bay Trail, Lewis Lake PP, NS. The moth is an annual regular here in Portuguese Cove although it looks more suited to life in Transylvania. Our moth references show myriads of similar looking critters. The last photo in this series, highlight #53 is our local Brown Thrasher. Despite our relative proximity to this bird it refuses to be photographed so this crummy photo is the best I can offer but nonetheless mid July photos of this mega rare summertime bird are in short supply. It's a heavily cropped image from the roof of our garden shed.
