Hi all I have been asked to pass on a message from Karen Chiasson about a CASPIAN TERN sighing by her yesterday at July 11 at Inverness Harbour.
While I am at it, Mark Pulsifer and I had 5 BONAPARTES GULLS on July 9 while atlassing along the coast in the Tracadie area of Antigonish County.
On Sunday July 8, Elwin Hemphill noted an unusual seabird at the Haliburton Gut near the Pictou Rotary and the same bird was probably seen by Steve Vines later in the afternoon. His first impression was Caspian Tern I believe, but from his distant view he thought the bill was black. He went home to get his scope and called me. He had a small glimpse of the bird on his return, but all the gulls and the Tern were in the air and on landing it could not be found. The birds were in Rollie MacDonald's large field between the Haliburton Gut bridge and the Pictou Rotary in Lyons Brook. We did see a probable second summer LAUGHING GULL with incomplete but quite dark hood in the field.
Subsequent searches have failed to locate the tern, but I saw the same Laughing Gull Tuesday at the Visitors Centre at the Pictou Rotary- probably picking up his copy of Doers and Dreamers!

cheers
Ken
PS Still prime atlassing time- I am sure Tom K. would love to have some people flooding some Guysborough squares this weekend.
