WOW! We just stumbled on a whole field of arethusa bulbosa. It was in what
I guess would be called a "peat meadow". That is, it wasn't really wet, but
full of peat and other mosses, picher plants, labrador tea, etc. There were
about a million arethusas. This was on a road which the atlas says goes to
"Lower East Chezzetcook beach", but the street sign called it the Conrad
beach road. The field was on the left, about 2/3 of the way to the beach.
The beach was a disappointment, by the way. It had been colonised by a
flock of camper vans, whose song was loud and "country-western", complete
with lots of Molson and Keith's scat.
Cheers,
Jane
