Hi all, Last fall, at the fungi foray at the Chanterelle Inn in Cape Breton we came across a very large Leccinum aurantiacum, well past it's prime that was infested with these carrion beetles. At first the beetles were not to be seen, just a writhing mushroom. But then after nudging it with a stick, they poured out (must have been fifty of them) and in three seconds flat they had all disappeared underground. They didn't seem to be moving that fast, but in jig-time they were out of sight, almost leaving us wondering if we had really seen them at all. K.
