We are pleased to announce the first Acadian Forest Science
Conference, to be held October 10-13, 2007, in Fredericton, New
Brunswick. The main goal of the conference is to showcase scientific
research on the Acadian Forest, increasing awareness of its character
and potential. The conference will also provide a regional forum for
the exchange of ideas among scientists, forestry professionals, land
stewards, environmentalists, policy makers, aboriginal peoples, and
others interested in our forests.

Online registration and abstract submission are preferred; please see
our web site: https://acadianforestscience.dal.ca. Seating is limited
so please register early. Conference organizers include
representatives of universities, federal and provincial governments,
conservation organizations, industry, and multi-stakeholder
partnerships.

Papers will enhance our knowledge and understanding by presenting
scientific research carried out in the Acadian Forest and
synthesizing relevant information. Topics will highlight the forest’s
unique character, show what can be learned from its history, present
evidence of influencing factors, identify gaps in our current
knowledge, and assess the management implications of natural
disturbance regimes and biodiversity response to forestry.

Plenaries will set the stage by focusing on four themes:
· Historical condition of the Acadian Forest
· Ecological characteristics of the Acadian Forest
· Influencing factors for the present and future Acadian Forest
· Potential management approaches for the Acadian Forest

Contributed oral and poster presentations are invited on the same
themes.

Schedule in brief: A reception on Wednesday evening, October 10, will
welcome conference
attendees. Paper sessions on Thursday and Friday, October 11-12, will
feature plenaries
followed by contributed oral papers. A poster session on Thursday
afternoon will showcase
additional research on the Acadian Forest. A special lecture
following the banquet on Thursday
evening will provide additional food for thought. A closing panel of
professionals from
academia, forestry, and NGOs will stimulate discussion by reflecting
on the conference from
their own perspectives. Field trips on Saturday, October 13, will
highlight ecological values and
demonstrate management techniques at selected Acadian Forest sites.

Please distribute this notice to anyone who might be interested.

Regards,

The Acadian Forest Science Conference Steering Committee
