While atlasing yesterday I spotted at least one dead snapping turtle and was
informed about another by a fisherman. I was on the railway track that runs
alongside Murphy Lake at Mount Uniacke. The turtle was on the right tucked
into the bank. The fisherman said he was fishing the day before and didn't
have his camera with him. When he returned yesterday the turtle he saw
looked dead and was covered in flies. The turtle I saw was huge, the shell
maybe a foot across. There is a relatively new golf course on the ridge
above the lakes with wonderful pristine greens. I hope the environment is OK
