Good Morning Everyone
A beautiful day on Brier today. Yesterday I got out for a hike and found a
Pitcher-plant forma heterophylla. It has lemon yellow flowers with no purple
veins in the leaves. I sighted it once before in the same bog at Western
Light 3 years ago but it wasn't there least year. Has anyone else noticed
how many Pitcher-plants are flowering this year? The bogs are covered in
Brier. Also noticed alot of Iris in bloom near Western Light lighthouse.
Also monitored the Eastern Mountain Avens- Geum peckii. They are in flower
right now.
Found 75 Northern White Bog Orchids- Platanthera dilatata along a trail on
Gull rock road.
Lots of Bog orchids in bloom- Arethusa bulbosa- Dragons-mouth, Calopogon
tuberosus- Grass Pink
Lots of strawberries out, of course our Island berry pickers are out in
force! Love their Jam.
Sighted a Bald Eagle flying near Ronies point in Freeport. Lots of Eider
ducks and ducklings about.
Our annual Canada Day BBQ was held at R.E Robicheau's with a wonderful turn
out again this year. It keeps getting bigger and bigger every year!
Hope you get a chance to get out for a hike on this beautiful day!
