First came the noisy baby Starlings, with their 'Skirr, skirr' begging calls (drive you nuts fast!), then the Hairy Woodpecker mother brought a female, then a male baby to the peanut feeder, and the peanut butter suet. A Chipping Sparrow fed a speckled-breasted young one, and a young Junco was also seen. A downy young Chickadee with short tail feathers on the outer edges had a bath in the birdbath and 2 young House Sparrows were seen sitting quietly together on a branch. A female Downy Woodpecker came with her male young one to the birch tree with the peanut butter, and a male Downy fed a female fledgling. Song Sparrows are being seen now with grass in their beaks, but no baby Songs have yet been spotted - a second try? House Sparrows are also carrying grass again. It's an interesting time of year!
