I was at the far end of Cherry Hill Beach today looking at three
Black-bellied Plover when I realized they were becoming restless
and suddenly they arose and flew across the inlet and over the
trees. Looking upward I saw a soaring hawk which I first took as a
Broad-wing, until the bird banked and I saw the very bright crescent-
shaped windows at the base of the primaries. The breast was darkly
striped, but I believe it was an adult as the crescents were white. It's
flight was quite rapid, but also it sailed on occasion, much like an
accipiter. I hope someone else will spot this bird!
