Hi Bob:

I thought you described a White-rumped quite well, including "medium" size,
"near-black legs," "long-legged" "darker than a semi" and "white rump." Perhaps
people didn't read your description closely before replying, and perhaps also
your later "bigger than a Sanderling" misled them into large birds. Actually, a
White-rumped averages smaller (lighter, slightly shorter) on average than a
Sanderling, but may seem bigger on its own because of its long legs and
elongate shape. Another thing you noted later was the longer bill cf.
Sanderling. White-rumpeds have a slightly droopy bill and I've seen them
confused in photos and in the field with Dunlin, but the latter definitely look
bulkier. As Susann notes, summering subadult peeps (in partial First-Alternate
plumage) are often seen here in small numbers during June.
