June 10, 2007 - Pat and I walked the trails at Noggins Farm at Greenwich,
and, even though we had their map, again immediately got lost!
Nevertheless, itıs a nice area in which to wander around (as long as you can
put up with fair numbers of hungry MOSQUITOES).

The forest floor was a carpet of blooming WILD LILY-OF-THE-VALLEY, with lots
of flowering CLINTONIA plus FALSE SOLOMONıS SEAL and STARFLOWER.

Near the railroad tracks we found a large fledged-but-downy CHICK of a GREAT
HORNED OWL, very close to the nest tree, I believe (used to be a red-tailed
hawk nest until 2006, when the owls successfully used it).

At least one BALD EAGLE was flying/soaring around the site, back and forth,
and we walked past the base of the tree that holds the EAGLE NEST, and,
quite close, the base of the tree that now holds the EAGLE NEST CAM. The
nest tree has a white sign on its trunk, and the webcam tree has a ladder
and cables etc. at its base.

The EAGLE NEST CAM can be found on the computer by Googling ³nogginsfarm²,
then choosing ³Agri-tainment², then click on the Eagle Nest Cam. However,
the camera has apparently moved, so that this afternoon it didnıt show the
nest at all. I trust that can be fixed soon (although I donıt know how they
can do that without freaking out the eagles?).

On the ground on a trail we found a single CARRION BEETLE that will probably
be identifiable, at least to genus, once I find an apppropriate book.

Cheers :-) from Jim in Wolfville, 542-9204
