Hi Nellie,

I wouldn't necessarily jump to conclusions early on. Here in my
garden in Halifax there are lots of ants. We have peonies in the
garden and the flower heads are (as per usual) thick with them. Also
many straw-coloured small ants under stones. We don't get that many
honey bees wandering through the area, but there are lots of bumble
bees, as well as flower flies, Polistes wasps, small bees, robber
flies, Lucilia illustris, Harmonia axyridis, and many other normal
late-spring insects. Our currents and gooseberries are thick with
fruit, so something has been very effectively pollinating them.

All the best,

Chris
